FOR SA defeated lockdown discrimination

Celebrating 10 Years in the Fight for Faith and Freedom!

Facts

During the COVID-19 lockdown, the Government enforced regulations to curb the spread of the virus, but these rules unfairly targeted religious gatherings. While casinos and fitness centres were allowed to operate, religious meetings were completely banned. Two people could sit side by side in a casino playing slot machines, yet praying together could lead to arrest and up to six months in jail.

FOR SA challenged this discrimination by taking the COGTA Minister to court. The day before the case was scheduled, the Government amended the regulations, aware that they would likely lose in court. This change allowed religious gatherings to resume under the same guidelines as other public meetings.

Without FOR SA's Involvement

Religious gatherings could have remained banned indefinitely during the State of National Disaster, setting a dangerous precedent for discrimination against religious freedom. Although the case was not ultimately judged due to the end of lockdown, it marked a significant victory for faith and freedom.
